There are no two ways about it. It’s simply not as easy to get excited about electric cars as it is the petrol-guzzling, combustion engine variety. EVs will likely always struggle to challenge the latter when it comes to pure driving thrills, but have no qualms – they can stimulate in many other ways. There’s the tech for one, and from automation to the regenerative braking borrowed from F1, there’s plenty to nerd out on. Perhaps more important is the eco element, and how, once the infrastructure is there, they should drastically reduce pollution. Whether you want them or not though, the EVs are coming.
More electric cars sold in 2021 than in the previous five years combined, and nearly 30,000 new EVs were registered in the UK in November ’22 – a 35 per cent increase year on year. Indeed, conventional petrol cars will be banned by 2030, so you’re going to have to get on board sooner rather than later. 2023 is going to help with that. It’s the strongest year for EVs yet, with mammoth releases from Tesla, Rolls Royce and even Lotus. These are, in no particular order, the top electric cars of 2023.
