In determining the best electric vehicle of 2024, we paid close attention to the aspects with which many EVs stumble (such as ride quality and charging speed) in addition to overall excellence. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 took our Best Electric Vehicle award for the second year in a row because it continues to hit a near-ideal balance of attributes — even against some newer competitors.
Though the Ioniq 5 rides firmly, it’s noticeably more absorbent over bumps and rough pavement than many of its rivals. Its DC fast-charging speed is impressive thanks to its 800-volt architecture, and its range is respectable, too: All-wheel-drive models can go up to 266 miles on a full charge and rear-wheel-drive versions can go up to 303 miles. The Ioniq 5 also stacks up well from a pricing standpoint, starting at less than $45,000 for a base SE trim with RWD and 220 miles of range.
