The new SiCore product platform produces high-energy-density silicon anode batteries that outperform graphite cells using a proprietary silicon anode material technology, according to the company. The new silicon anode cell offers up to 400 Wh/kg specific energy and 1,200 cycles at full depth of discharge. It has also branded its existing silicon nanowire platform SiMaxx with its current product range of up to 500 Wh/kg and 1,300 Wh/L energy density.

The SiCore silicon anode battery performance has been confirmed across numerous electric mobility applications, leading customers to estimate demand over 100 MWh in the coming years. Amprius has exclusive rights to use these silicon anode materials in the US, Canada and Mexico under a supply arrangement with its partner Berzelius.

MWh-scale quantities of SiCore products in a wider range of form factors encompassing pouch, large form factor (up to 100 Ah), and cylindrical cells are available for delivery in 2024 to support customer demand. These products will pair with Amprius’s existing MWh capacity installed in Fremont, California for SiMaxx. Amprius expects to produce SiCore and SiMaxx batteries at its gigawatt-scale factory in Colorado.

“The global battery market size for electric mobility is projected to grow to over $100 billion by 2025, including aviation and EVs,” said Dr. Kang Sun, CEO of Amprius Technologies. “This new product platform is expected to meet customers’ volume shipment requirements immediately while presenting a drop-in solution to foster silicon anode adoption in multiple applications.”
