Austria-based Miba Battery Systems has announced that its FLEXcooler liquid cooling component for batteries will be used in an unnamed European OEM’s latest electric sports car model from 2026.
FLEXcooler’s slim and flexible design ensures an optimal connection between the heat sink and battery cells without the need to use thermally conductive materials such as adhesives, pastes or gap fillers, according to the company. This also makes battery systems easier to refurbish and recycle.
The FLEXcooler’s size, shape and function are tailored to the customer’s individual requirements to reduce system complexity and costs for any cell format or type. The technology is suitable for common cooling applications such as side, base or terminal cooling, and enables precise tolerance compensation.
The FLEXcooler is being used in a range of applications from motorcycles to municipal and commercial vehicles. Miba has already agreed to supply the OEM with FLEXcooler for another model in the premium sports car segment. The component will be produced at the Voltfactory #01 in Bad Leonfelden, Upper Austria.
“What started as a small, high-performance production for electric racing motorcycles is now developing into a global series solution for the automotive industry. We are proud to be able to meet the high performance and sustainability targets of such a renowned sports car manufacturer with our unique component,” said Stefan Gaigg, Managing Director of Miba Battery Systems.
