EV car or petrol car? (Not sponsored)
EV car prices were slashed last month. So what is the cost of owning and running an EV compared with petrol car.
Tata Motors currently has 75% market share in EVs in India currently, so let’s compare;
-Tata Nexon EV vs Tata Nexon Petrol
Car Cost: (on-road price in Delhi)
Nexon EV (base): 15.2 lakhs
Nexon Petrol Automatic: 14.2 lakhs
Cost of Running: (15,000 km/year)
Nexon EV: Rs 15,000 (1/km)
Nexon Petrol: Rs 120,000 (Petrol: 97/ litre, Average:12 kmpl)
Car cost recovered after 1 year
Maintenance cost:
Rs 4,000/year lesser for Nexon EV
Battery Replacement cost:
Tata Nexon comes with a warranty of 8 years/1.6lac kms on battery. Cost of battery replacement is the biggest cost for an EV car. And it will take around 3 lakhs to replace its battery as the battery prices are falling rapidly.
MvM Verdict:
I will buy Tata Nexon EV as it is cheaper to own and run over 5-6 years and at the same time it is environment friendly.
But remember 2 more things:
1. Range Anxiety: It can run 250-300 kms in a single charge
2. Check charging infrastructure around your city and also in the locality where you live
