Should you wait to buy a new Volkswagen ID4? This fully-electric midsize SUV is coming to Australia in 2023 alongside the ID5 coupe-SUV as VW’s first EVs on sale here.
The Volkswagen ID4 is an EV crossover that will compete with the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and Volvo XC40 Pure Electric. The ID4 is rear-wheel drive, but there is an AWD ID4 GTX hotter version coming later. The 77kWh battery should be good for range of over 500km.
In today’s video, Chasing Cars deputy editor Curt Dupriez gets a first Australian drive in the ID4 Pro Performance 77kWh. He also drove an entry-level ID4 with the smaller 53kWh battery.
Volkswagen has told us the ID4 will be priced like a Tiguan 162TSI R-Line when it is released in Australia in 2023.
As always, we don’t accept advertising from car manufacturers, and we’re powered by Budget Direct – so this is an independent, honest review of the Volkswagen ID4.
