Tesla has initiated a recall for over 77,000 domestically produced Model 3 and Model Y in China due to a software issue related to the vehicles’ tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

An additional recall for imported vehicles has also been announced.

TPMS recall:

  • A total of 77,650 Model 3 and Model Y that were produced at Giga Shanghai were affected by the TPMS recall.
  • The affected vehicles were produced between September 28, 2021, and November 22, 2024, as per China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR).
  • In affected vehicles, the tire pressure monitoring system warning light may not remain illuminated between drive cycles. This may result in drivers not being warned about low tire pressure.
  • Similar to most Tesla recalls, the TPMS issue will be addressed through a free over-the-air (OTA) software update.
  • For vehicles where an OTA update is not possible, Tesla service centers will handle the update.

Additional Recall:

  • Tesla China has also recalled 63 imported Model S and Model X vehicles over a faulty driver’s frontal airbag issue.
  • Affected vehicles were produced between November 20, 2024, and November 26, 2024.
  • Due to an issue in the airbag supplier’s manufacturing process, the airbag fabric could tear during deployment. This could prevent the driver’s frontal airbag from functioning as designed.
  • Tesla will provide free replacements for the faulty airbags completely free of charge.
