- The Tesla Model Y was once again the best-selling EV in Europe last year.
- That said, its numbers dipped 17% compared to 2023.

Europe had a bit of a rough year in 2024 in terms of new car registrations. As previously reported, overall car sales in this part of the world went up by less than 1% compared to 2023, and every powertrain type was down except for hybrids. That includes the all-electric car segment which recorded a slight market share dip after four years of growth.
Not exactly good news, especially compared to the impressive numbers we saw in the United States and China, but it’s not the end of the world either. To recap, new EV registrations in Europe went down by 1% in 2024 compared to the year before, according to Jato Dynamics.
With that out of the way, let’s see which EVs were at the top of the sales chart and which were at the other end of the list. The Tesla Model Y still leads in Europe, but its grip shrank by 17% to 209,214 units. Its sedan sibling, the Tesla Model 3, takes second place with 112,789 units registered last year. That’s a 12% bump compared to 2023.
When looking at the overall car market, the Model Y finished in fourth and the Model 3 landed in 27th spot. The best-selling car in Europe in 2024–irrespective of powertrain type–was the Dacia Sandero (268,101 units), followed by the Renault Clio (216,317 units) and Volkswagen Golf (215,715 units).
While the two Tesla models have been at the top of the EV registration charts in Europe for several years, Volvo swooped in for a surprise appearance in third. The newly introduced Volvo EX30, the Swedish automaker’s smallest and most affordable model, overtook the Skoda Enyaq with 78,032 units registered. The Enyaq, which is based on the same underpinnings as the Volkswagen ID.4, was in fourth place with 68,874 units registered, a 4% increase over 2023.
Speaking of the ID.4, it finished the year in fifth place, with 64,756 units registered in Europe, down 24% from 2023.
The Mercedes-Benz EQB SUV saw the biggest increase in registrations compared to 2023 (58%), while the Fiat 500e had the largest drop on the top 20 list (-53%).
