When will major automakers understand that they don’t also have to develop their own batteries, chassis, and drivetrains? wonders Will McDonough, CEO of EMG Advisors, an asset management that invests in EV raw materials.
Since Teslas are superior, more cost-effective, and easier to construct, the entire industry would be better served to adopt their battery technology and concentrate on providing customer service rather than competing on body types and brand.
“This capitulation was just the first step and is all a part of Elon’s master plan,” he says of Tesla’s efforts to promote the use of its charging technology in the auto sector.
Tesla has been open about wanting to license its driving assistance technologies as well.
Elon Musk, the business’s CEO, stated in 2021 that the company has “preliminary discussions” regarding licensing its Autopilot driver-assistance technology with other automakers.
Likewise earlier this month, Musk tweeted that Tesla is “happy to license Autopilot/FSD or other Tesla technology” and that the company wants to be “as helpful as possible” to other automakers.
Some investors consider self-driving cars to be the pinnacle of AI applications and think Tesla might be valued far more as a robotaxi operator than as a car manufacturer.
In a recent research, analyst Tom Narayan of RBC Capital Markets stated, “We believe the car business might only contribute 10% of [Tesla’s] total value.”
