An expansion of Denbighshire’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure has been welcomed as a great resource for both locals and visitors by a national group.

The Electric Vehicle Association for Wales – EVA Cymru has given the ‘green’ light to a new charging hub at Rhyl.

West Kinmel car park’s electric vehicle (EV) charging hub launched last month to support local owners of electric vehicles and those travelling from further afield.

Funded by the Welsh Government , the 36 vehicle capacity hub, is a mix of ‘fast’ 7kwh chargers for local users who have no access to off street parking and ‘rapid’ 50kw chargers for a quick charge top up and also to help local taxi drivers on the uptake of electric vehicles by minimising disruption to operational work time.

The hub stations are also helping support local businesses by carrying the Discover Rhyl QR code, powered by QR Boxx, in partnership with Rhyl Business Improvement District (BID).

EVA Cymru is Wales’ national representative body for EV owners across the country and aims to support the role of the non-fossil fuel powered vehicles in tackling climate change.

Paul Martin, of EVA Cymru, said:

“The new electric vehicle charging hub in Rhyl is a fantastic resource for both local and visiting electric vehicle drivers and demonstrates Denbighshire County Council’s ongoing commitment to the decarbonisation of transport to help tackle climate change.

“This new hub will support the interests of current EV owners and also help those who are interested but lack charging facilities at home to move to EV transport.

“The Council is really travelling streets ahead in terms of supporting EV transport and this hub along with other county facilities will give really confidence to EV drivers travelling in the area.

Cllr Barry Mellor, Lead Member for Environment and Transport said:

“The Rhyl hub is designed first off to help those with no off street parking wanting to move to EV transport, to do so in the local area.

“It is also designed to support businesses in Rhyl by providing charging facilities for visiting EV drivers who can discover the town’s shops and establishments only a short walk away from the car park. Drivers travelling across North Wales can also locate the hub on the map, using it as a stop off point to charge their vehicles which will encourage more footfall in Rhyl.

“We also hope the facility will help local businesses such as taxi firms move to more electric powered vehicles knowing they have this facility to use.

“The hub has help us expand our charging infrastructure to match pace with the phase out of fossil fuel vehicles, reducing the county’s carbon footprint. Our EV charging service will grow even further with the addition of more public based car park chargers in the near future.”

Mae ehangu isadeiledd gwefru cerbydau trydan Sir Ddinbych wedi ei groesawu fel adnodd gwych i bobl leol ac ymwelwyr gan grŵp cenedlaethol.

Mae Cymdeithas Cerbydau Trydan Cymru – EVA Cymru wedi rhoi’r golau ‘gwyrdd’ i ganolbwynt gwefru newydd yn y Rhyl.

Agorwyd canolbwynt gwefru cerbydau trydan maes parcio Gorllewin Cinmel fis diwethaf i gefnogi perchnogion lleol cerbydau trydan a’r rhai sy’n teithio o ymhellach i ffwrdd.

Ariannwyd gan Lywodraeth Cymru, mae’r safle sydd â lle i 36 cerbyd yn gymysgedd o fannau gwefru 7kwh ‘cyflym’ ar gyfer defnyddwyr lleol sydd heb le i barcio oddi ar y stryd, a mannau gwefru 50kw ‘chwim’ ar gyfer gwefru’n gyflym ac i annog gyrwyr tacsis lleol i ddefnyddio cerbydau trydan drwy leihau’r amhariad i’w hamser gweithio.

Mae’r gorsafoedd hefyd yn helpu i gefnogi busnesau lleol trwy arddangos cod QR Darganfod y Rhyl, wedi ei bweru gan QR Boxx, mewn partneriaeth ag Ardal Gwella Busnes (AGB) y Rhyl.

EVA Cymru yw’r corff cenedlaethol sy’n cynrychioli perchnogion cerbydau trydan ar draws y wlad ac yn anelu i gefnogi swyddogaeth cerbydau nad ydynt yn defnyddio tanwydd ffosil i fynd i’r afael â newid hinsawdd.

Dywedodd Paul Martin, o EVA Cymru:

“Mae’r safle gwefru cerbydau trydan yn y Rhyl yn adnodd gwych i yrwyr cerbydau trydan lleol a rhai sy’n ymweld ac yn dangos ymrwymiad parhaus Cyngor Sir Ddinbych i ddatgarboneiddio cludiant i helpu i fynd i’r afael â newid hinsawdd.

“Bydd y safle newydd hwn yn cefnogi buddiannau perchnogion cerbydau trydan presennol a hefyd helpu’r rhai sydd â diddordeb ond nad oes ganddynt gyfleusterau gwefru yn y cartref i symud at gerbydau trydan.

“Mae’r Cyngor wir ar y blaen o ran cefnogi cludiant cerbydau trydan a bydd y canolbwynt hwn, ynghyd â chyfleusterau sirol eraill yn rhoi gwir hyder i yrrwyr cerbydau trydan sy’n teithio yn yr ardal.

Meddai’r Cyng. Barry Mellor, Aelod Arweiniol yr Amgylchedd a Chludiant:

“Dylunnir y safle yn y Rhyl i helpu’r rhai nad oes ganddynt barcio oddi ar y stryd sydd eisiau symud at gerbydau trydan, i wneud hynny yn yr ardal leol.

“Fe’i dyluniwyd hefyd i gefnogi busnesau yn y Rhyl trwy ddarparu cyfleusterau gwefru i yrrwyr cerbydau trydan sy’n ymweld a fydd yn gallu darganfod siopau a sefydliadau’r dref sydd ond ychydig gamau o’r maes parcio. Gall gyrwyr sy’n teithio ar draws Gogledd Cymru hefyd ddod o hyd i’r canolbwynt ar y map, gan ei ddefnyddio fel lle i wefru eu cerbydau a fydd yn annog mwy o fusnes yn y Rhyl.

“Rydym hefyd yn gobeithio y bydd yr adnodd yn helpu busnesau lleol megis cwmnïau tacsis i symud at fwy o gerbydau trydan gan wybod y gallant ddefnyddio’r adnodd hwn.

“Mae’r canolbwynt hwn wedi ein helpu i ehangu ein hisadeiledd gwefru i gyd-fynd â chael gwared â cherbydau tanwydd ffosil, gan ostwng ôl-troed carbon y sir. Bydd ein gwasanaeth gwefru cerbydau trydan yn tyfu hyd yn oed ymhellach wrth ychwanegu mwy o wefrwyr mewn meysydd parcio cyhoeddus yn y dyfodol agos.”
