Nepali Government passed budget for this fiscal year a day ago and many points which were critisized before were now turned into some heart warming points. If we look at the budget of 2077/2078 tax rate on electric vehicle was huge. People who were interested in buying electric cars were so disappointed by this rule and also electric vehicle market was dropped highly. If compared with gas vehicles, tax was very high.
Customs duty is brought to lowest 10% for vehicle having peak capacity up to 100kw, 15% customs for vehicle which have peak capacity between 100kw and 200kw and highest 30% for vehicle having peak capacity of more than 200kw from previous staggering 60% and excise duty was 30%-80% according to the vehicle capacity but now despite of any vehicle and it’s capacity there is no excise duty charge i.e.0%. So we can clearly say that an EV costing about 65-70lakhs can be on our hands on Rs.35-40Lakhs(expected).
Similarly, if we replace our gas engine vehicle with an Electric vehicle then road tax and renewal charge will be waived for 5 straight years.
Our Government is planning to go all electric vehicle by 2031. According to the information given by Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), 50 EV charging stations will be installed and maintained in near future and talks are going on with a Chinese firm for that process.
