Volkswagen ID. Buzz Owners, Rejoice: Cupholders Coming In June

  • The Volkswagen ID. Buzz does not have cupholders for its second row of seats.
  • An addon accessory will launch by the end of June that adds two cupholders and two smartphone holders.
  • It is expected to cost under $100 and will be able to be ordered online or at a Volkswagen dealership.

It’s an open secret in the Volkswagen ID.Buzz community that the car’s lack of cupholders seem to be a very big oversight. I noticed, Doug Demuro noticed, and a whole gaggle of ID. Buzz owners have implemented some crafty solutions to add in cupholders where there weren’t any.

Well, looks like the conundrum will be over soon. Volkswagen got back to me and said that cupholders are coming by the end of next month.

The brand’s accessory team says the cupholders will come in a set of two and will fit both models with bench seats and captain’s chairs. They’ll come in a set of two, and add space for “two beverage containers and two smartphones.”

Pricing hasn’t been officially announced, but the representative says the accessory will cost less than $100 for a set.

We still don’t exactly know how the units will install. However, Volkswagen did say they were fairly flexible; if you’ve got a model with the captain’s chairs, you’ll be able to mount them both on the inside of the chair rather than facing the doors. You’ll even be able to install a full set on one chair.

If you want four more cup holders and own an ID. Buzz with captain’s chairs, that will be totally possible.

I think Volkswagen’s solution may end up being very similar to the 3D-printed Rivian cupholders that some ID. Buzz owners have used as a temporary solution. The Rivian cupholders look abnormally close to the vehicle’s floor, so I am hoping that Volkswagen’s manufacturer-supported solution might be ergonomically better suited to the vehicle.

Unfortunately, Volkswagen didn’t send over any pictures or other details about the accessory itself, but it did say it will be available to order online or at a dealership when it’s launched at the end of June.

On one hand, this seems incredibly silly that Volkswagen has to charge for a feature common in nearly every modern car. Yet, I’m glad to see that the buyers of these vans, who are generally satisfied with the vehicle, will have a concrete solution to let them enjoy it even more.
